In The Middle Of God’s Will

Luke 8:22-25 ~ 22 One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” So they set out, 23 and as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. 24 And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”(ESV)

Has God ever told you to go and do something and immediately you obeyed? You heard the instruction and heard the result of what would happen if you obeyed? The disciples where in a place where they heard and obeyed. They got on the boat to get to the other side.

When they got on the boat it placed them in the middle of God’s will. The key thing to remember is that being in the middle of God’s will means that God is with you all the way. The Word says that as they sailed Jesus fell asleep. Let’s look at the word sail. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sail as; to move or proceed easily, gracefully, nonchalantly, or without resistance. This means everything was going smoothly. I can imagine the sky was clear, the weather was nice, and it just made for a perfect day to get in the boat and sail to the other side. It’s easy to obey when conditions are perfect. It’s when those conditions become not so perfect.

As they sailed a little further there arose a storm on the ocean that seemed to threaten their lives. As the wind began to rock the boat and the waters came crashing against them, causing the boat to be filled with water they began to panic. This is very symbolic of what was spiritually going on with the disciples as their faith was being tested. The disciples who were simply on a lake (a body of water surrounded by land) and being the expert fishermen they were, allowed fear to take over and fill them.

Everything they had come to know about Christ just flew out the window along with His Word and the teachings that should have prepared them for this test. Not to mention their expertise on boats as fishermen. Fear comes to cripple us and to make us believe in extreme and irrational lies. The Word of God is true and trumps everything that comes to overtake it. Remember the enemy’s job is to come to steal, kill, and destroy and it’s up to us to not allow him to win because we have authority over him. Fear is a spirit of that is given to us by God. He has given us according to 2 Timothy 1:7, power, love, and a sound mind. Fear comes to steal our power, kill our love, and to destroy our sound mind.

When we are in the middle of God’s will we are tested before we can make it to the other side. Before we can make it to our promise we are tried, humbled, and proven so that we can see what is in our hearts and whether we will obey (Deut. 8:2). It’s no reason Jesus told the parole of the sower. We at times have played all positions of the seeds. But at any position God is always with us and as the good teacher he is teachers us what we need to know before the test. He proves to us who He is and what He will do in us and for us as long as we obey. When say yes to God we are just starting on our path to God’s will for our life and the teacher is teaching. Are we soaking it up and not just for the knowledge but for the understanding and the wisdom of the teaching?

We have to get to a point where if we take the first steps in obeying God then we must trust God in the middle of the process. God always tells us the end of a thing while never showing us the middle or the process in which we must go through. If we just keep the end fixed in our mind having faith that as long as we stay in God’s will we will make it. Even when storms arise God has given us the ability to speak over it. God withholds no good thing for them who walk upright (Ps 84:11). Meaning that you are going to make it if you continue to obey. No, this doesn’t mean you are going to be perfect in your obeying but you should be perfect in having a made up mind to serve God. No matter what comes my way I will serve the Lord.

We never loss when we obey God. The disciples feared that they were going to loss their life. The only life we will ever loss serving God is the old life we once lived. Being in God’s will brings about a shedding of the old wine skins and allows the new to take hold of us that we may be filled with the new wine or the Holy Spirit. This means we will gain a new way of talking, a new way of seeing, a new way of walking, and a life filled with NOW faith. I can’t see the promise with my natural eyes but I believe it’s already mine and I walk like it, I talk like, and if I have to fight to keep my faith, I war in the spirit for it.

Jesus rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith. The trial was only to help strengthen them. What would have happen if they decided to stand on the Word and spoke to the storm themselves? The same thing that happened when Jesus spoke to it is what I believe. But, it showed them that they still had to learn how to trust the one who slept. Can you trust when God isn’t speaking and the storms of life are ragging? Will you take God at his Word and stand speaking that you are going to make it to the other side?

The moment you decided to give your life to the Lord was the moment you started on your path of God’s will for your life and there is nothing that can stop you now. God is with you and he is for you. Because if He wasn’t it would make him a liar. God doesn’t lie nor does he have to repent. He is faithful to perform that which he has spoken. Will you believe?

Four Power Points of a Boaz Blessings ~ Part 4

Four Power Points of a Boaz Blessings

Part 4

Our fourth and final point we are going to talk about is the manifestation of the blessing in chapter four.

Manifestation: a public demonstration of power and purpose.

Here we have in chapter four Boaz going to sit in the town’s gate waiting on the guardian-redeemer. It doesn’t say how long he waited, but he was desperate to get the one who captured his heart. If he had to wait all day then he would have done just that.  You can always tell the real from the counterfeit by if he is willing to do what it takes to secure you as his wife. That means he may have to wait but if he is the one he will be willing to wait.

In verse one Boaz spots him and calls him over, but he also calls witnesses to witness his display of pure intentions. Boaz knew that anyone in their right mind would not give up something as valuable unless there were stipulations that would cause them to lose something else of more value.  Boaz knew that the value wasn’t in the land but it was in Ruth. A virtuous woman as he called her, and in her was his favor. He laid out the situation real good to the guardian-redeemer. Who in turn was eager to redeem the land until…Boaz reminded him of the law. The law that states you must marry the decreases wife, and produce a son that would carry on the name of the deceased. With this little reminder, the guardian-redeemer must of had some land and property of more value that he didn’t want to give up to Elimelech’s family.  Which is how the law worked back then.

Boaz, on the other hand, was willing to give it all up for the hand of Ruth. He knew how much Ruth loved her mother-in-law and that she would go to great lengths to secure her future. That didn’t stop Boaz. He would have done anything to make Ruth happy. Even if that meant giving her up to the guardian-redeemer that her heart’s desire would have been fulfilled.

Women miss their Boaz because they are too blinded by what their natural eyes sees. Ruth trusted in the wisdom of Naomi. She trusted in her relationship with God and followed her guidance. Like Ruth, we must seek out spiritual counsel. Counsel that will help steer us in the right direction.

Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety

Women can be blinded by selfish desires and miss the desires of God for their life. So,  even though Boaz was an older man, and probably not her type, she didn’t let that deter her from receiving her blessing.  Many women never receive that which they pray for because they never recognize the answer to their pray due to the packaging. Ruth prayed I am sure for her mother-in-law to be blessed but she never guessed it would come through her.

A man that will sacrifice his happiness for yours is a diamond in the ruff. He is one that is sent by God. Boaz’s love was manifested for the people to see. Because of that, their future together received spoken blessings it.  As a result, Ruth became part of the lineage of King David and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the blessed children she bore. She had a husband who adored her and happiness she could only dream about.

I pray you take these points and apply them to your life as you prepare for your Boaz blessings.
